Natalia Smirnova (writing her detective novels under the pseudonym of Vera Korkina) was born in 1962 in Yakutsk, Siberia. She studied language and literature at Yekaterinburg University, in the Urals, where she later taught literature. Natalia now lives in Moscow and works as a commissioning editor at one of the largest publishing houses. She is the author of three books of prose. Natalia was awarded a Fellowship from the Hawthornden International Writers’ Retreat in 2001. These two novels mark her debut as detective writer.
